Gone to the dogs followup
It is now official. The High Primal and I have indeed gone to the dogs. Griffin and Butters demanded their fair share of this blogs banner and they got it. With this post, one might also conclude that this blog has succeeded in going to the dogs.

Supper Bowl Sunday?
I can remember when Super Bowl Sunday was all about football. The newspaper the past few days has told me otherwise. It seems that today is more about food than it it is about clobbering the quarterback. Judging from the recipes that have been printed and the displays at the supermarket, today is the day to gorge ourselves on chili, chips, dip, kielbasi, dogs and for the timid indulging in some salads will do. Super Bowl Sunday has become Supper Bowl Sunday.
Sometime during the day we'll be asked to view some entertainment consisting of some loud mouths gyrating on a stage and hoping that there is a wardrobe malfunction - the publicity would be priceless. Speaking of priceless, the football competition has been displaced by a commercial competition. Some corporation today will be crowned as the sponsor of the cutest or most outrageous commercial - I can hardly wait to turn it off.
As if to tempt me to participate in Supper Bowl, the weather today is gorgeous. It's warm enough to do some grilling outside and pretend that I'm tailgating. There's no way I'll succumb to temptation. It will be a cold day in hell before I drag the Weber out of the garage in February to cremate some sausages.
This is probably making me sound like a curmudgeon. If so I've succeeded in getting my message across. Super Bowl Sunday no longer holds the glamour that it did in my younger days. It has something to do with how violent the game of football has become and how obnoxious the practitioners have become. I know, it also has something to do with how old I have become. No matter, on this Supper Bowl Sunday I will have supper or perhaps more properly dinner as usual. Around the time of the game, the high primal will be tuning in to "Downton Abbey". I'm pretty sure I will be joining her. There is nothing like watching a foreign film on Super Bowl Sunday. I hope there are some subtitles. A spot of tea would also be nice.
( Asked the high primal what she thought of this post. Her response, "It's cute". Now what the hell does that mean? It's not humorous for sure. It's not clever for sure. I did not intend for this post to be cute. I hate "cute" - with the exception of Betty Boop. Maybe I should watch that cute football game after all.)
Epilogue:
Ended up watching PUPPY BOWL VIII with the high primal and had a blast. My only disappointment was that a Miniature Schnauzer was not in the line up. Downton Abbey also proved to be a winner.

Go Miniature Schnauzer!
Tonight the high primal, with her dog encyclopedia handy, becomes a rabid sports fan. It's time for The Westminster Dog Show, the Super Bowl of dog shows. Her favorite will once again be a Miniature Schnauzer - that's like rooting for The Indians to win the World Series this year. If the Schnauzer is a long shot, anything cute will do ( but not as cute as a half naked poodle). Large dogs are not in the running as far as she is concerned. It has something to do with a Saint Bernard who slobbered all over her when she was four years old. The strange part of all this enthusiasm for a dog show is that we have never owned a dog. The closest we have come to being dog owners is to function as dog sitters for our granddaughters dog who happens to be a Miniature Schnauzer. The bad thing about the high primal's enthusiasm for the dog show is that dinner usually gets short changed. Not this year though. It's Valentines Day and the high primal is taking me out to dinner. I like treats.

Nice day for a house guest....
Great day out there! A little cool but the sun is shining ( why do we say the sun is shinning? Doesn't it shine continously ). Anyway it lifts the spirits ( never really understood what that means but it sounds good).
I'm glad the rain stopped since we have a house guest. When he's visited in the past he complained about the rain. Don't get me wrong, we're glad to have him. He's not much trouble other than at dinner time. He has a voracious appetite. My spouse, the high primal thinker, meets herself coming and going trying to satiate his appetite.
Speaking of the high primal thinker, I think my friend is quite taken with her and the attraction seems to be mutual. I'm not the jealous type but I am the suspicious type. She has assured me his antics revolve around the food she prepares and shares with him. I love my wife and I love my friend, so I've concluded that its not unreasonable to share affections. Threesomes are not uncommon these days ( "these days" justifies any activity these days).
Our house guest loves to walk which is fine , except he insists that I walk with him. I keep telling him that getting up at five in the morning to take a walk is not my idea of fun but I'm sure we'll be up again at five tomorrow morning.
He has another bad trait. He is anti social and not very tolerant of other guests. The only way we can get him to accept a visit from others is to bribe him. His appetite does him in. Offer him a treat and he's your friend for life.
You may have guessed by now that our guest is a dog, our daughter's dog. While she and her family are on vacation, Thurston will be vacationing with us. The price they pay for his cheap vacation is a very spoiled dog.
