From Rags To Riches

Being poor as a church mouse implies living in extreme poverty. By putting one's nose to the grindstone coupled with a little conniving, greasing of palms, ruthlessness and a lot of luck, someone who is dirt poor can become filthy rich proving that you can go from rags to riches but the dirt never rubs off.
