Excerpt from Family Day brochure noting 1st anniversary of Solid State Lamp manufacturing at Chesterland Lamp Plant |
During General Electric's initial foray into the manufacture of LED's (Light Emitting Diodes) in the 1970's, it chose to call them Solid State Lamps. No one refers to today's increasingly popular LED lamps as Solid State Lamps. As the physical structure of LED lamps is made more and more to resemble the familiar A19 household bulbs, I'm surprised that the name Solid State Lamps has not been resurrected as a marketing tool. It didn't make sense in the '70's but I believe that it would be a winner now.
